What is an Online Community?
Digital Communities have considerable influence on the internet. Online communities become learning environments when people are able to share ideas and knowledge with one another (Christopher Pappas, 2025).

Subreddit Community: r/VictoriaBC
One such online learning community is r/VictoriaBC. Having been created all the way in 2009 by reddit user βJescro,β it has been a central hub of information for people in Victoria. The subreddit has over 150K weekly visitors and 10K weekly contributors. The subreddit is also connected to a variety of other victoria based subreddits such as r/uvic and r/canada (u/Jescro, 2009).The r/VictoriaBC online community helps users in Victoria and the Capital Regional District (CRD) by giving them a platform to share their knowledge and experience. Examples include users sharing information about housing and local events, or helping share news of emergencies like natural disasters or Amber alerts. A link to the subreddit can be found here. Log-in is not required to view content in the subreddit. Overall, r/VictoriaBC is a great online learning community that is native to Victoria.
